Hurraw! Lip Balm

My daughter loves chapsticks and lip balms…….

here is her stash…….

here is my daughter…..

and if I had to guess how many chapsticks, lip balms, and lip glosses she has had in her 5 years of actually using it- I would guess around 50.

Here is my son…..

he likes chapsticks too…..except he eats them…..(well, he used to when he was younger)

if I had to guess how many he has eaten in his lifetime my guess would be 15.

Yes, I said 15 and no, I didn’t let him do it.

The scenario would go something like this:

*my daughter receives a package of lip balms for her birthday, holiday or special occasion

*she opens them and uses them and leaves them laying around her room

*at a later date she goes to use one and it is gone….she opens it and there is nothing inside but an empty tube

*she cries and comes to me, my son confesses

*I panic and throw the rest of them away scolding her for leaving them laying around and then scolding my son for eating them

*then I spend the next day worrying about if the “chapstick meal” would harm my son

*we are chapstick-less for a month or so and then a holiday, birthday or special occasion comes and we have new chapsticks to start the scenario all over again

After this scenario played out several times I finally decided to do some research.

Have you ever read the label on a child’s chapstick, lip balm or lip gloss?  There is a warning on most of them!

It says DO NOT EAT!!!!

So, according to these lip balm manufacturers it is okay for your child to rub this sweet smelling and sweet tasting balm all over her lips but she cannot eat it. HMMMMM………..

I checked the Environmental Working Group and most of the chapsticks my daughter has owned are toxic enough that we will not be using them anymore.  Their rating system is as follows:  a score of 0-2 is a low hazard, 3-6 is a moderate hazard, and 7-10 is a high hazard.

The average scores from my daughter’s stash were between a 5 and an 8 which is too high for my liking.

So, what is a mom to do for chapstick, lip balm loving daughter??

Find ones that are NOT toxic!  Like these: Hurraw! Lip Balms

I received 3 lip balms to try out and share with my readers:

Earl Grey, Grapefruit, and Mint….these are truly amazing!~

They are all natural, vegan, raw, organic and the ingredients are awesome!!

They smell amazing and I cannot wait to try some of their other lip balms like coffee bean, chai spice, vanilla bean, black cherry, coconut, lime, root beer, lemon, chocolate, and more!!!

My daughter approves and we plan on restocking her collection of lip balms with these.

I feel better about what she is putting on her lips and even though my son is old enough now that he doesn’t eat the lip balms I wouldn’t have to worry if he did.

    • Yes, and those are just the ones I threw away yesterday!! In her 9 years of life it is amazing how many lip balms she has had!! So glad there are great replacement products out there!!!

  1. I am in ♥ with the black cherry – I am a grown up and I don’t wear make up. I favor a tinted balm for work and the black cherry really is the perfect touch of color for me.

    • awesome, can’t wait to try that flavor!! I am really looking forward to the coffee flavor too…I am more of a browns tint girl so that on might be perfect for me!! 🙂

  2. Cool stash. If your daughter loves lip balm the best out there is Buddha Balm. Flavorful and natural, they are tough to beat. Try all four flavor. Enjoy.

  3. Oooh! I love lip balms too but now that I know a little better I don’t use the toxic stuff. I haven’t heard of these but I want some now! Thanks for the intro. I’ll have to pin this. 🙂
