This cold won’t take me down!

You know when it’s coming…..you can feel it…..you are left wondering where those little germies where when you came into contact with them……at the grocery store while pushing that sticky cart, at the post office when you held the door open for that stranger, actually, maybe it was that stranger!!   It doesn’t matter now, those little germs have invaded your body and are trying to start a war!

Are you ready to fight?

Are you armed with the proper weaponry???

Does your body have what it needs to win?

Here are some great tips to help fight off those germs the next time they come around!

#1-GARLIC!!!

Take a clove of fresh garlic and dice it as small as you can…..

then mix it with a spoonful of raw honey

swallow and repeat!!

Garlic is a wonderful way to boost immunity in your body!  It contains allicin, which has shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties.

A great tip is to buy organic garlic in bulk.  Peel and seperate each clove and place in a ziploc bag and place in the freezer.  When you need a clove just let it thaw for about 5 minutes!

#2-GINGER ROOT

Take some fresh ginger root and slice it into small chunks.  Place in some water and boil for 10 minutes.

Cover and let steep for another 10 minutes.  Strain ginger pieces out and drink the ginger tea.  Optional: add fresh lemon and honey!

Ginger tea is also good to use for pain and nausea as well as helping to fight off a cold!

You can also buy organic ginger in bulk and slice into small pieces and freeze!

#3-VITAMIN C

Oranges are a great source of vitamin c and when you are sick you need lots of fluids so fresh squeezed orange juice is perfect!

#4-GREEN TEA

Green tea contains antioxidants plus the caffeine helps with the lack of evergy you feel when you are sick!

Try it with a little almond milk and some stevia!!

#5-PROBIOTICS AND OREGANO OIL

Probitotics should be taken each day but especially when sick.  Oregano oil is a great immune booster-dab a bit behind each ear.

#6-CHLORELLA, BEE POLLEN, GOJI BERRIES

These are full of nutrition, and are a great addition to help strengthen your immune system when it is compromised.

Oh, and remember they say you cannot CURE the common cold so I am not claiming that any of these will cure your ailment, rather, they may help to alleviate symptoms. ;)

It is said that kombucha has been consumed for over thousands of years and has been named “The Tea of Immortality”.

It has been used in China, Russia, Japan and Eastern Europe.

My first experience with Kombucha was with GT’s Kombucha that can be bought at any health food store.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I really liked it…and it kind of smelled funny.  I took a few more sips and then placed it in my fridge.  The next day I drank some more and liked it much better.  After that I would pick one up each time I went to the health food store.

This started my addiction to kombucha……..

and then one day a friend of mine gave me a piece of this culture to start brewing my own…….

*******DISCLAIMER*******

If you have never heard of or seen kombucha it may look a little weird and even gross…..but as strange as it may seem, I promise it tastes wonderful!!!!

You start by brewing black tea and mixing in some sugar……..

Once this mixture has cooled you add in the kombucha starter……

This is the part that looks gross!!!! LOL

You cover this with a cotton cloth and set in a warm environment and wait for about 7-10 days…..

you end up with this fizzy drink called kombucha!!!  At this point you pour it into glass containers (I reuse my glass bottles) and then add fruit for flavorings.

I have a lot of fun with this part!!!!

I have made:

ginger-lemon

blueberry

apple-cinnamon

pear

blueberry-cranberry

raspberry

pomegranate

strawberry

mango

mango-peach

pineapple

pineapple-ginger

watermelon

there are endless possibilities in flavoring kombucha!!!

so yummy!!!!
